Chiropractic is a natural science and technique that focuses on the function and bio-mechanics of the spine, joints, and nervous system. Most commonly Doctor of Chiropractic treat the body using a gentle and integrated hands-on approach (and tool assisted) in the treatment of patients. Focusing on spinal health and well-being, the person is viewed as a whole and integrated being.
Because the body's various systems are interconnected, spinal mechanics - including the vertebrae, corresponding nerves, and soft tissues - play a major role in the health of the whole body. Dr. Bartels, Dr. Fanders and Dr. Woodle, a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician® through the ACBSP®, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA and Fellow of the Acupuncture Society of America, regularly treat patients from childhood to baby boomers, weekend warriors and professional athletes/olympians.
Doctors of Chiropractic are trained to diagnose and treat disorders of the body, most specifically of the neuromusculoskeletal system - simply defined as (nerves, muscles, skeleton - bones and joints.) A joint dysfunction (called a subluxation or misalignment) is primarily treated by a procedure known as a chiropractic adjustment. The chiropractor applies a quick and specific pressure to the misaligned joint that is not functioning properly to correct its alignment and cause a neurological response. The procedure is usually applied manually (low force tools can also be used), and results in a reduction of pain, inflammation, and restoration of function and mobility in the injured area. In addition to the chiropractic adjustment, our treatment plans may include therapeutic exercises, disc decompression therapy, acupuncture, ultrasound, electric muscle stimulation, nutritional counseling, and other professional advice that may improve overall health.
