*Just Introduced-  Hot Stone Massage!
This type of massage is performed using hot basalt or "black volcanic rock" strategically placed in areas of the body to increase circulation and movement of energy to a higher level. This type of massage is known to more quickly release tight muscles, knots, and is very effective in warming the body. This style of massage is credited to  have first been performed by Native Americans to feel better after work and battle. You will find Hot Stone Massage to be a quite amazing experience.

A Simple Way to Request Your Style of Massage
Swedish Massage uses firm but gentle pressure to promote relaxation, eases muscle tension and uses rubbing and kneading of the tissues to increase circulation. Swedish massage is most known by its combination of 5 long flowing strokes. The word comes from the Latin massa meaning "dough". The five main strokes are known as: "effeurage" sliding and gliding, "petrissage" kneading, "topotement" rhythmic tapping, "friction" movement across the fibers releasing warmth and "light vibration" of tissue. This technique being the most common performed is most know for its power of increasing circulation and assisting in arthritis.

Deep Tissue Massage is aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia. It is often focused in specific areas of severe tension and is most well known for it's ability to release chronic muscle tension. This type of massage is focused on releasing and relaxing the deeper layers of muscle in the body such as the paraspinals, multifidi, and piriformis to name just a few. This type of massage is often requested by individuals who are involved in high levels of physical activity such as athletes, manual workers, and those who have experienced chronic tightness and/or pain. Deep tissue work varies greatly. What one person calls light may be to much for another which is why it is so important to have an excellent therapist that you can trust and communicate with.

Prenatal Massage is a specific sets of techniques designed to relax an expecting mother and prepare her body for a smooth and easy pregnancy. Prenatal massage can preformed safely from day one to the day before expecting the baby. As you can imagine, prenatal massages must be very detailed and specific as there are areas your therapist knows can and should not be treated. Your therapist will work with you to learn how far along you are, traits of your baby's position and movement, and how this has affected your body.

In our clinic our team of therapists and doctors work very closely together and often will see moms before they are even expecting for the purpose of increasing fertility with Acupuncture. We have had the opportunity to help hundreds of families and we would love to work with you!

Medical Massage is specifically directed to resolve conditions that have been diagnosed and prescribed by a physician. These conditions range diversely from lymphedema and swelling to patients healing with cancer. Your medical massage will be specifically tailor to address your health and optimize your wellness and  innate healing abilities. We regularly accept referral from your primary care doctors in addition to having the option of working with our doctors here in the clinic for further consultations, the options are always up to you.

Sports Massage is focused to unwind patterns of strain and imbalance to recharge the bodies ability for optimal performance. These patterns of strain often develop within the myofascial system associated with intense physical activity. This technique of massage focuses on restoring natural balance within the myofascial system, lengthening, and putting the muscle back to ease. This technique is commonly used by athletes including runners, soccer players, gymnasts, weight lifters and weekend warriors along with chiropractic to both prevent injuries and optimize performance. A few conditions that I see a lot of include shin splints, plantar fascitis, sprained and strained groin, hamstring, and psoas muscles, and rotator cuff injuries. Having your therapist both very knowledgeable in these areas and working daily with the team of doctors sharing techniques to optimize your health is an advantage hard to match.

Sports massage, like many other massage modalities, helps to increase circulation, improve range of motion and break up adhesions (known to most of us as simply "knots"). It was originally created for athletes to help them to prepare their bodies for maximized performance, event recovery and more efficient training. But you are not required to have competed in the Vancouver Olympics to benefit from a good sports massage. Any active individual, whether it be on the machines at the gym or keeping up with the kids at home, can gain a great deal from a sports-oriented massage therapy session. Sports massage focuses on specific areas of the body, depending on the activity done by the client. For example, runners are likely to need more work on their legs, while boxers would likely need more work on their backs and arms. The client's history of injury and medical problems is very important since sports massage is especially useful to clients recovering from a sports-related injury. My favorite is that for Maintenance. Just like your maintenance program with your chiropractors here at Advanced Sports and Family Chiropractic, maintenance massage also exists so that the client can maintain muscle flexibility and range of motion. This will help the client to avoid injury while in the process of their training.

  1. Event. There is a reason that you will frequently see massage therapists set up at 5k runs and marathons! Massage performed before, during, and after athletic events is a godsend for athletes. A quick pre-event massage can help a client in his warm-up regimen, intra-event massage can help the client quickly recover and prepare for what’s still ahead, and post-event massage can help the client to recover and address immediate issues like muscle spasms.
  2. Rehabilitation. Try as we may to stay healthy, we active individuals can still get muscle tears, bruises, cramps and aches.  Massage can help in relieving pain and helping to speed recovery by improving the formation of repair tissue.  This will help the client especially in keeping range of motion strong for rehabilitative exercises.

    Benefits of Massage:
  • Stress Relief
  • Improved Circulation
  • Faster Recovery Time from Injury
  • Sleep Improvements
  • Increased Energy
  • Better Range of Motion
  • Pain Relief
