It is well known that pregnancy places additional physical and emotional stresses on a woman’s body. For pregnant women who experience depression, the physical and emotional stress is compounded by mental stress and depression symptoms.
Historically, there have been very few treatments available for women with depression during pregnancy. Many common methods used to treat depression are not available to pregnant women for fear of harming the fetus. Thus, researchers have looked for safer alternative treatments to effectively treat depression during pregnancy.
In 2004, Stanford University’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences conducted a pilot study that found promising results for the use of acupuncture to treat depression during pregnancy.1 In 2010, Stanford completed a randomized controlled study, published in Obstetrics and Gynecology, concluding that the women who received acupuncture in the study experienced a greater Cialis Viagra buy Online reduction in depression symptoms than the women in the control groups.2
